I did something a bit different that worked really well. I took a package of frozen sliced bacon and used my ulu knife (http://www.ulu.com/) to cut crosswise into about 3/4 inch strips. I put the strips on their sides on the bottom of the frying pan and turned the stove to medium low. The pieces all separated nicely as they fried. When they were about half done, I took a meat fork and stirred them up well and let them finish frying. The were all nicely separated and I didn't have to fiddle with separating them. _________________

Thank you, Gigi. It's a "stumbled-upon" thing. Now if I remember the next time I make bacon. . .
Incidentally, I cooked it with the lid on throughout. I find that if I fry it a bit slower and keep the lid on, there's lots less spatter. _________________
