Sugar Busters is based on the glycemic index. No counting of carbs, or calories is necessary. Certain foods are avoided, such as white flour, sugar and potatoes, corn, beets and some fruits. Whole grains are allowed, but limited to three or less servings per day. Whole wheat pasta, and brown rice, as well as beans are all allowed in moderation. It encourages the use of low fat dairy products, and lean meats, lots of veggies and fruits in moderation. It is not as restrictive as Atkins, but works somewhat on the same principles of reducing insulin levels to lose weight. It differs in that the number of carbs you eat a day does not matter, as long as the type of carb you are eating is within the guidelines of the diet, and has a low impact on blood sugar levels. Reading labels is essential. Any foods that have more than 3 grams of sugar per serving are not allowed. This is a very balanced, easy to follow plan.
